Considering Psychotherapy or Counselling?
Deciding to have Psychotherapy/Counselling is in essence a first step you take towards getting to know yourself better with the intention of alleviating suffering in whichever way that is experienced.
Psychotherapy and Counselling use the relationship with your therapist and a range of theories to help understand your current position and early experience. It is often hard even to identify the cause of our suffering and attempting to express or put words to your experience offers a uniquely powerful method of finding ways to a less troubled and more rewarding life.
You may wish to invest in yourself with a series of sessions:
- to clarify an issue
- change old patterns, increasing awareness of feelings, thoughts and behaviours they contain
- for self-development
- to untangle personal issues
- as a result of a crises
- because someone encourages you to do so
There are of course many other reasons you may wish to seek psychotherapy. I welcome diversity and my client group spans across age, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion and employment groups.
I have particular though not exclusive interest in working with trauma and its manifestations including addictive patterns, psychosomatic distress, and with all those affected by adoption and fostering. Additionally, I have a particular understanding of Ehlers-danlos syndrome.
I am also experienced in working with and can help those suffering emotional distress or mental well being as a result of abandonment, addictive cycles, anger, anxiety, attachment issues, bereavement and loss, depression, domestic violence, lack of confidence, health crises, inner world troubles, life transitions, loneliness, low self-esteem, loss, obsessional and compulsive difficulties, panic attacks, personality adaptations, phobias, relationship issues, separation, sexual identity, stress, surviving childhood abuse, traumatic loss, isolation and withdrawal.
